Hi! I'm Alyssa Jewell, MLIS

Also known as La La Librarian, I am passionate about curating and creating valuable resources for storytellers and caregivers. As a librarian, musician, and mom, I believe every child deserves access to high-quality music, movement, and book experiences.

About Me

I’m a musician, librarian, storytime expert, and the founder of Storytime Central, a curated resource community for storytime professionals. In addition to an MLIS, I hold a BA in Theatre Education and a K–12 teaching certification.

Over the years, I’ve co-written three musicals for young audiences, adapted bestselling authors’ books into songs and stage productions, and authored the professional resource book Move, Play, Learn: Interactive Storytimes with Music, Movement, and More (ALA Editions). My upcoming children’s book, The Apple Song (F-Flat Books), brings one of my singable songs to life in picture book format!

I’m based in Birmingham, Alabama, where I live with my husband, two kiddos, three cats, and senior dog.

La La Librarian was named in honor of our beloved dog Luna, affectionately called “La La” by my children. We wanted a name that felt easy to say, fun and musical — the perfect match for a singing librarian.

Mission Statement

We believe that every child deserves access to high-quality music, movement, and book experiences. We aim to support caregivers and educators in the critical early years with joyful, intentional resources that help children grow and create lasting memories. Our focus is on fostering the precious bonds between children and their grown-ups, equitable access to rich early literacy experiences, cultural competence, and inclusive environments for all families.
